Is it truly beneficial to pursue your own aspirations in life rather than heeding the advice of your parents, relatives, friends, and other significant individuals? Is it worthwhile to trust your instincts and carve out your own path?
These might seem like challenging questions, but are they the ones that lead to the best answers? Let’s unravel the truth in the upcoming episode of the Philippine Retailers Association (PRA) – Let’s Talk Retail, featuring the founder of Plains and Prints, R.A.F, and Recess, Roxanne Farillas.
When asked, “What advice would you give to students deciding on their career path?” she responded earnestly, “Listen and make your own decisions. Don’t let the opinions of your parents, cousins, friends, or significant others influence you. Visualize where you see yourself in 10 years. No one else can dictate your path – because if you lack passion for what you do, you won’t excel.”
Roxanne also emphasized the importance of seizing opportunities, especially for the next generation. She believes that being in the right place at the right time is a sign to take action. Additionally, she shared her intriguing experiences in collaborating with different generations within the company, stressing the necessity of understanding their perspectives. She stated, “It’s not easy, but you have to adapt to their mindset. Millennials have a unique outlook. It’s a two-way street; they learn from us, and we learn from them. It’s crucial not to assume superiority based on age or experience. I always encourage them to share their insights.”
