Roberto “Bobby” Claudio, President of the Philippine Retailers Association (PRA), has been recognized as the Outstanding Association Board Member of the Year 2024 at the Philippine Council of Associations and Association Executives (PCAAE) “ANG SUSI” Awards, held on November 27, 2024, at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).
The PCAAE ANG SUSI Awards—short for “Associations Nurturing National Growth through Social Unity and Sustainability Innovations” — celebrate outstanding achievements by associations, association leaders, and professionals across various sectors. It is regarded as the highest recognition in the field of association governance in the Philippines, honoring impactful leadership and initiatives that contribute to societal and industry-wide development.
This year, Mr. Claudio was recognized for his exemplary leadership and invaluable contributions to the PRA, which has grown to become a formidable voice for Philippine retail under his tenure. The award also highlights his dedication to advancing equitable business practices, fostering innovation, and driving sustainable and inclusive growth in the retail sector.
Under Mr. Claudio’s leadership, the PRA has undertaken numerous transformative initiatives, including:
- Advocating for fair and inclusive policies: Supporting the Internet Transactions Act and VAT regulations for digital transactions to create a level playing field for all retailers, both traditional and online.
- Championing intellectual property rights: Strengthening partnerships with IPOPHL, FILSCAP, and the Philippine Competition Commission to promote innovation and protect creativity within the retail ecosystem.
- Promoting sustainability and responsible growth: Spearheading PRA’s participation in the United Nations Global Compact and its Sustainability Committee to encourage environmentally conscious practices.
- Supporting tourism and retail development: Endorsing the VAT Refund Scheme for tourists and forming strategic alliances with key government agencies and industry groups to bolster the local retail landscape.
- Driving digital transformation and people development: Focusing on innovation, skills development, and programs to prepare the retail sector for future challenges.
