Several shopping malls in the country announced that they will shorten the operating hours of their shopping centers amid the growing problem of energy resources.
SM Supermalls said in response to the national government’s national energy emergency, its malls across the Philippines will shorten operating hours from Monday to Friday starting March 30.
SM Supermalls owns and operates a chain of shopping malls across the country, including SM Mall of Asia, SM North Edsa, and SM Megamall.
SM Supermalls said it will operate from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. from Mondays to Fridays and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. from Saturdays to Sundays.
An SM Supermalls official said the schedule applies to all its malls.
Meanwhile, Robinsons Malls made a similar announcement, heeding the call to conserve energy.
“We’re adjusting our operating hours nationwide starting March 30 as we support national energy conservation efforts. Thank you for being part of this shared commitment,” it said in its social media pages.
Robinsons Malls will operate from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. from Mondays to Fridays and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. from Saturdays to Sundays.
Ayala Malls, meanwhile, said effective March 30, 2026, its adjusted mall hours are from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday to Friday, and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday to Sunday.
Vista Mall and Starmall–both part of the Villar group–have also said they will be operating from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays, and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. earlier declared a state of national energy emergency, saying that the ongoing unrest in the Middle East has posed an “imminent danger… upon the availability and stability of the country’s energy supply.”
