Many of us assume that the next generation, set to take over the reins of their respective businesses, seamlessly grasp the intricacies and are ready to tackle problems and crises. However, Jansen Ivan Uy, the General Manager of Savers Appliances, knows that it takes experience to surmount the challenges he encountered while managing their business.
In the 37th episode of the Philippine Retailers Association (PRA) award-winning podcast, “Let’s Talk Retail,” the spotlight is on Jansen’s journey in the retail industry and how he navigated the hurdles that came his way. During the interview, he shared how Savers Appliances developed strategies to operate during the pandemic. He emphasized their key to survival and success, saying, “Agility and rapid experimentation. Act swiftly, assemble specialized teams. Small, cohesive teams employing a regional approach to operations, given that the pandemic unfolded at various times and in different areas.”
When questioned about how the pandemic altered consumer behavior, especially regarding appliances, he noted, “Customers have become more demanding and less brand-conscious due to inflation. They are exploring brands beyond the conventional ones, and some lesser-known brands are on the rise. People are seeking alternative options.”
Additionally, Jansen took pride in highlighting how Savers Appliances stands out from the competition. “We embrace the 3S approach – Solution, Size, and Selection. We provide end-to-end solutions, encompassing not just appliances but also design, purchase, and after-sales support. We consider active participation in the purchase journey as significant.”
Finally, he emphasized the importance of mutual respect when collaborating with individuals from different generations, stressing the need for a harmonious understanding that accommodates varying perspectives.
