What does it take to lead today’s workforce effectively? While many business leaders focus on compensation and benefits, some say the key to retaining top talent lies in demonstrating genuine value appreciation and commitment to employees.
This was the focus of the latest episode of PRA’s Let’s Talk Retail, featuring Jerald Sze, Founder and Managing Director of Straightforward. In this insightful discussion, Jerald shared a bold perspective on what employers need to understand about leading today’s workforce. He stated, “Business and employers need to level up so much that they must walk the talk – it’s not just about preaching; they have to show their employees that they are truly valued and not taken for granted.”
Jerald’s words echo a powerful truth: If you fail to value your employees, you’re missing out on the opportunity to work with the best talent. He stressed that businesses and employers must focus on valuing their employees more because, after all, their companies wouldn’t be as successful as they are without the people working behind them.
He also shared how he leads his team with love and positivity. He emphasized the importance of showing employees the vision of the company, where their time is being invested, and making them feel that they are a vital part of the company’s success.
In addition, Jerald shared a valuable lesson he’s learned through his entrepreneurial journey. He said, “There are two kinds of people in the world: those who curse the darkness and those who light a candle. You don’t want the people who curse the darkness—they are not part of your team. You want to surround yourself with people who choose to light a candle, to be a force of light.”
