Mental health is often overlooked in fast-paced industries like retail, where success is measured in numbers and growth. Yet behind every thriving business is an individual navigating personal challenges – something that Dominic Yu, President of Skoop, understands deeply.
In the latest episode of Let’s Talk Retail, hosted by PRA Thought Leader and Leasing Consultant CJ Jesena, Dominic shares not only the story of building his brand but also his personal struggles with mental health.
“I value mental health so much,” he says, opening up about the challenges many entrepreneurs face but rarely discuss.
Dominic shared a powerful insight: “If you are in a proper mental health and mindset, I believe that you can grow the company even more. An owner can only grow the business as fast as they grow themselves.”
He went on to explain that he decided to speak publicly about his mental health because he wanted to offer more than just his business journey. “I want to be of value. I want to be vulnerable, to step outside of my comfort zone, and actually try to help others who might be going through the same thing,” he shared.
This is what makes PRA’s Let’s Talk Retail podcast more than just a business show —it’s a platform that delves into real, human experiences, the challenges we face, and how we overcome them. It’s about the journey of entrepreneurs, but also the personal growth we all strive for – not just in business, but in life.
This episode goes beyond business success, shining a light on the importance of mental well-being. The Philippine Retailers Association (PRA) hopes it serves as an eye-opener, encouraging openness, vulnerability, and the courage to seek help when needed. Challenges may feel overwhelming, but they are not permanent. There is always a way forward, and there is always hope.
