Filipino-made products could soon enjoy greater exposure in Japan and beyond, thanks to deepening trade talks between the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Pan Pacific International Holdings Corp. (PPIH), the parent company of Japanese retail giant Don Quijote.
DTI Secretary Cristina Roque met with top executives of PPIH in Tokyo this week in what was described as a “strategic meeting” to boost economic collaboration.
High on the agenda: expanding the range of Philippine products available in Don Quijote stores across Japan, the United States, and other parts of Asia.
The meeting signals Don Quijote’s growing interest in the Philippines—not as a location for its famously quirky retail stores just yet, but as a supplier of unique, quality goods that cater to its global customer base.
Filipino products such as dried mangoes, coffee, coconut-based goods, snacks, and even beauty items have been gaining popularity in international Asian markets, and Don Quijote appears keen to ride that wave.
